In schools, social workers often serve as the link between students’ families and the school, working with parents, guardians, teachers, and other school officials to ensure students reach their academic and personal potential. In addition, they address problems such as misbehavior, truancy, and advise teachers on how to cope with difficult students. Increasingly, school social workers teach workshops to both students and their families.
As a School Social Worker and Special Education Case Manager, I am responsible for evaluating, creating, and implementing a student's special eduation program. I work in all the elementary schools as well as with children with special needs that are age 3. Some of my other responsibilities include special education monitoring coordinator, disability resource coordinator, parent trainer, and crisis management team member.
